Notice of 2015 West Perth District Football Development Council Annual General Meeting

Please be advised that the West Perth District Football Development Council Annual General Meeting is to be held on Monday 30th November 2015 in the Sports Bar at Arena Joondalup. Registrations will commence at 6.30pm for a 6.45pm sharp start. Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the meeting.

Please find attached documentation pertaining to the 2015 West Perth District Football Development Council Annual General Meeting. These include:

Please also find attached a web copy of the Annual Report and the 2015 Annual General Meeting Agenda.

Clubs are required to complete the attached affiliation form and the Club Committee Contacts Register prior to the commencement of the 2015 Annual General Meeting and return to the District Secretary.

Affiliate Club Members include:

  • Junior Football Clubs who participate in the AFL Auskick (5-8 year old), AFL  Junior (9- 12 year old) and AFL Youth (13-17 year old) competitions must affiliate with the Council in order to participate in competitions conducted under the auspices of the Council.
  • Senior Community Clubs who participate in competitions affiliated to the WAFC may affiliate to the Council (includes but is not limited to clubs participating in the WA Amateur Football League, Metropolitan Football League, WA Womens Football League and AFL Masters WA).

The West Perth DFDC Chairman requests that a minimum of two members from each affiliate are in attendance where possible.

AFL 9's is coming to the City of Joondalup this spring!

Social Mens and Mixed Footy Competition; regsiter a team today!

McDonald’s AFL 9s is the AFL’s social version of the game. It’s a fast, free-flowing game that involves 9 players on each team playing on a smaller field. Best of all, it’s ‘touch football’ with no tackling or bumping, making it suitable for people of any age or skill level. Importantly, McDonald’s AFL 9s is easy to play, not too physically demanding and provides an environment where fun, enjoyment and safety are a priority.

McDonald’s AFL 9s enables people of all ages and ability levels to participate in male, female or mixed competitions that fit around their busy lives and provide a social and fitness outlet.

The game is played between two teams of nine (9) with interchange players. The field has a recommended length of 100 metres (which can be modified depending on the age and ability level of participants) and is divided into three zones: a mid zone and two scoring zones.

Teams score by kicking the football into their attacking scoring zone to designated forwards who are the only players permitted to score. A mark is awarded irrespective of the distance the ball has travelled and if the ball hits the ground it is an automatic turnover.

McDonald’s AFL 9s is a non-contact version of the game which requires players to implement a touch in place of a tackle.

Young African takes Joondalup Youth Girls Best and Fairest!

Scovia Anzoa has had an amazing 2015. Having made her AFL debut in 2013 for the Butler Falcons, an all-girls African AFL Team based in Butler, she went on to captain the side in 2014. This year, she made her debut for the Joondalup Falcons, as part of the transition program set up to encourage girls from multicultural backgrounds into the female AFL pathway. She also became Head Coach of the Butler Young Falcons and made the second round of the WA State Under 16s trials, all at age 13. Recently, Scovia celebrated her 14th birthday and capped off her season with the Joondalup Falcons by being awarded the Fairest and Best Honours, making her the first female South Sudanese female player to take the award at any level in WA.

Falcons celebrate football; both on and off the field

The Falcons District hosted the 2015 Football Excellence Awards last night at the Joondalup Reception Centre, a night that celebrated football at all levels. 

200 guests enjoyed celebrating seaosn 2015, hosted by Channel 9's Michael Genovese.

Quinns DIstrcits Amateur Football Club and Wanneroo Junior Football Club highlighted their success off the field with Quinns taking out Senior Club of the Year for the second time in three years and the Wanneroo Junior Football Club taking back to back Junior Club of the Year titles. Both clubs take home $1000.00 in prize money.

Alkimos Seahawks flying high in Metro Footy League

GRAND FINAL BIRTH FOR NEWLY FOUNDED SEAHAWKS, "A DREAM COME TRUE" FOR PRESIDENT!

Last weekend dreams were made to come true for the Alkimos Seahawks Metro Football Team as they ran out  1 point winners in the qualifying final against the Midland Tigers in the division 2 Metro League. After a last second goal to beat the Innaloo Bulldogs by 5 points in the first week of the finals, the Alkimos Seahawks now find themselves preparing for the clubs first ever Grand Final after only their second season in the competition.

Fuel for the game

As we move into Finals time we thought we'd share some insights on how league footballers prepare, to ensure they have the right fuel for the big game!

Most AFL players prepare their body for the game by getting physiotherapy and massage to ease aches and pains but they also need to eat correctly before the game to ensure they have sufficient energy to get through a full game of AFL.

Pre-game fuel

Pre-game food and fluid intake are the final stages of recovery from a week of hard training to ensure the body is fully stocked before the game begins.

Why should you eat before the game?

Training day in, day out, can reduce the body’s energy reserves especially carbohydrate stores. This is why it is essential to replenish these after every training session. But it doesn’t just stop there, it is important that carbohydrate recovery is continued right up until the start of the game.

A pre-game intake of carbohydrate ensures that you have enough of this essential energy source to compete at 100% for the whole game and not run out of energy as the game goes on, which may happen if your carbohydrate stores are not fully loaded.

What should you eat before the game?

It is important that your pre-game meal is something you like! Most AFL footballers have a favourite pre-game meal that they will have regularly eat before heading out onto the field.

Usually the pre-game meal follows a few basic guidelines:

High in carbohydrate
Low in fat
Foods you enjoy and are comfortable with
Include a fluid choice with the meal
The timing of the pre-game meal is also an important consideration as eating too close to the game can cause an upset stomach, while having something too far in advance can mean you are hungry during the game

It is recommended that you eat your pre-game meal about two-to-four hours prior to the game.

This allows enough time for the food pass through the stomach and into the intestines where it can be absorbed for use. The exact timing of the meal will depend on how your body handles the pre-game build up.

Anxiety and nerves can cause disruptions in the digestion process and can lead to stomach upsets. If you are someone that suffers from nerves or anxiety it is a good idea to eat well before the game and consume lighter snacks or fluid choices closer to the game.

Pre-game meal examples:

Breakfast cereal or porridge and reduced fat milk
Toast or muffins with jam/honey/peanut butter
Baked beans or tinned spaghetti on toast
Pasta with a low fat tomato based sauce
Sandwiches or rolls
Creamed rice and tinned fruit
Rice or noodles and low fat stir fry
Low fat smoothies or liquid sports nutrition supplement (like Sustagen Sport)

Hydration before the game

Hydration is an important concern for AFL footballers and drinking enough in the lead up to a game is just as important as eating well. It is a good idea to consume fluid at your pre-game meal and in the hours leading up to the game.

Sports drinks provide the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. By consuming sports drinks leading into the game you can ensure that you have carbohydrate for energy and also sufficient fluid and electrolytes for adequate hydration.
