About Footy Fundamentals
Footy Fundamentals in the only WA pre-Auskick football program endorsed by the AFL and the WA Football Commission.
Launched in 2013 the program uses AFL football to build fundamental movement skills in children aged 2 years to 5 years.
Footy Fundamentals aims to prepare our kids for the future.
Footy Fundamentals is a carefully planned and structured toddler AFL program, which encourages your active toddlers to develop their fundamental movement skills in an AFL environment, using AFL equipment.
Each week, toddlers will focus on one or a set of movement skills, and play fun team-work based games that incorporate these skills.
Active parent involvement is required in all of our toddler AFL programs.
New Curriculum in 2017
After four years Footy Fundamentals has had a major review with changes to locations and to the program curriculum. With the assistance of Fundamental Movement, Early Childhood Education and Football specialists a new and exciting curriculum will be launched in Term 1.
Fundamental Movement Skills are patterns of movement that involve different body parts such as the legs, arms, trunk and head and include skills such as running, hopping, catching, throwing, striking and balancing. These skills are the foundation movements to more specialised, complex skills used in kids games, sports, dance and every day activities.
The new curriculum ensures that our participants are able to develop Fundamental Movement Skills critical to their development whilst maintaining our links to AFL Football.
Our age groups
TODDLER KICKERS (2 yrs to 3 yrs)
'Toddler Kickers' is all about exposing toddlers to the shape of an AFL football, and using big AFL equipment to encourage active movement, and the development of fundamental movement skills.
MINI KICKERS (3 yrs to 4 yrs)
'Mini Kickers' are at the age of starting to learn the art of kicking a football. They are put through a slightly more advanced course that uses different sized balls and equipment to further develop their fundamental movement skills, encourages listening skills, and introduces some basic teamwork skills.
KINDY KICKERS (4 yrs to 5 yrs)
The 'Kindy Kickers' stage enjoy advanced obstacle courses to challenge their fundamental movement skills, and participate in more teamwork games to encourage sportsmanship, sharing, working together and communication. They are introduced to majority of the skills needed for AFL, and practise them in fun skill-based activities and games. They even finish with a game of football in the last week of the Quarter to put all of their skills to practise.
