North Metro Sundowner Celebrates Football in 2018

Wednesday, December 19, 2018 - 1:26 PM

Auskick 2019Junior Football 2019

On Tuesday December 11th, the WAFC Metro North staff hosted key football volunteers at the annual Sundowner event. Junior club Presidents, committee members, DFDC representatives and JCC members attended a night of fellowship to celebrate another season of football.
The event took place at Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club where the theme of the night was set by the beautiful summer weather and an ocean view that was second to none. The three districts conducted their monthly JCC meetings before coming together for a formal presentation where Community Development Manager Andrew Ridley addressed some changes to junior football for the upcoming 2019 season; Andrew also introduced the newest member to the Metro North team Matt Neves who has replaced Callum Warner in the Competitions & Club Development Team Leader Role. Andrew closed the presentation by commending all the volunteers from our 28 clubs and our 3 DFDC’s and JCC’s on their hard work and achievements in 2018.
Guests then enjoyed a meal together which saw the infamous Tow-Bar-B-Q put on a spread that was fit for kings and queens alike. Some live music was also enjoyed by all, and our club volunteers took the chance to enjoy each other’s company in a festive manner to wrap up the year that was. Subiaco District Development Officer Matt Debarro had this to say “It is always great to be able to connect with our key club and district volunteers on a social level. It has been a long hard but successful season in 2018, so to get the chance to celebrate it with those who have helped us play a major role in delivering football to the community means a lot to both us and the them.”
As Christmas approaches it brings and end to 2018, but there is no question that all clubs in the Metro North conference are looking forward to the year ahead.

Footy Fundamentals - That's a wrap!

Wednesday, December 19, 2018 - 10:31 AM

We've reached the end of another outstanding year of Footy Fundamentals. We had nearly 600 registrations this year, who joined in across our 8 Fundies centres.

Our participants have had an absolute ball over four terms this year and enjoyed themselves as much as our coaches did, teaching your youngsters about the basics of Australian Rules in a fun and safe environment.

We use modified football equipment that's easy for the kids to handle, along with fun activity equipment that we make use of to enhance the enjoyment our sessions.

There are plenty of locations to choose from as well. You'll find us at HBF Arena in Joondalup, Leatherback Park in Alkimos, Warwick Stadium, Dianella Light Street Open Space, Claremont Oval and Gilbert Fraser Reserve in North Fremantle.

If you would like to be part of the fun next year, our sessions reopen across the week starting 11th February.  Some centres are very popular so jump in early!

What is 'New Age' Coaching?

Friday, October 26, 2018 - 1:49 PM

The ‘new age’ Coach, is more than a theory, it is a way of life and one we as community coaches and participants of our great game at the grassroots level should do what we can to adopt. Athlete centred coaching is what works best for our players, as well as for adult participants of the game.

Encouragement, fun, understanding and empathy are all great ways of engaging our children and the players we coach, not only to benefit their love of the game and getting outside, but that’s how we get out players to engage with skill development and overall retention.

If you are a coach or club official who would like more information about athlete centred coaching or the ‘new age’ coach, please don’t hesitate to contact the Metro North Coach Coordinator Wes Moran at
